Terms of Service

By accessing or using Mbube.io — whether by creating an account, browsing content, or contributing translations — you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the platform.

• You must be at least 13 years old to use Mbube.io. Users under 18 should have parental or guardian consent.
• You must not be prohibited from using the platform under Nigerian law or the law of your jurisdiction.
• By registering, you confirm that the information you provide is accurate and truthful.

• You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
• You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
• Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.
• Each person may hold only one account. Creating multiple accounts to evade bans or restrictions is prohibited.

You own your content. Posts, comments, translation contributions, and media you create remain yours.

By submitting content to Mbube.io, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to store, display, distribute, and use that content solely for operating and improving the platform — including making translation contributions available to the community’s language corpus, which serves our core mission of language preservation.

You confirm that you have the right to share any content you post and that it does not infringe any third-party rights.

You must not use Mbube.io to:

• Post content that is false, defamatory, hateful, obscene, or incites violence.
• Harass, threaten, or impersonate any person or organisation.
• Submit inaccurate or intentionally misleading translations that could corrupt the language corpus.
• Scrape, crawl, or extract data from the platform without written permission.
• Attempt to hack, exploit, or disrupt the platform’s services.
• Spam other users with unsolicited messages or content.
• Promote or sell products or services without authorisation.
• Violate any applicable Nigerian or international law.

• We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these Terms or our Community Guidelines, at our sole discretion, without prior notice.
• We may suspend or permanently ban accounts that repeatedly violate these Terms.
• Users with moderation roles (MODERATOR, LINGUIST, ADMIN) are held to a higher standard and may have roles revoked for misuse.
• You may delete your account at any time from your profile settings.

The Mbube.io platform — including its design, code, logo, and branding — is our intellectual property. You may not reproduce, copy, or redistribute any part of the platform without written permission. User-contributed language data (translations) is collectively owned by the community and licensed for non-commercial cultural preservation use.

Mbube.io is provided “as is” and “as available” without any warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI-generated translations are accurate. Community-verified translations are provided in good faith but we make no guarantee of linguistic accuracy. Always consult a qualified linguist for formal or legal translation needs.

To the fullest extent permitted by Nigerian law, Mbube.io and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of — or inability to use — the platform. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you have paid us (if any) in the 12 months preceding the claim, or ₦10,000 — whichever is greater.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Mbube.io and its team from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising out of your use of the platform, your content, or your violation of these Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the platform shall first be attempted to be resolved amicably. If unresolved, disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Cross River State, Nigeria.

We may update these Terms at any time. We will notify registered users of material changes via an in-app notification. Your continued use of the platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
